Tom McDermott was born in Kirkwood in 1957. After receiving a masters from Washington University, he moved to New Orleans in 1984. He quickly learned the boogie-woogie and rhythm and blues styles of the Crescent City, which combined with the ragtime of St. Louis made him a pianist in demand.
McDermott played Carnegie Hall with the Dukes of Dixieland and has been a sideman with Pete Fountain, Irma Thomas and Gatemouth Brown. He’s recorded 17 CDs and been reviewed in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. It’s been a while since he’s played in his hometown and he is really looking forward to it!
