A Celebration of Life to Honor Jay Schober

September 6 @ 5:00 pm

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jay Schober on August 6, 2024 surrounded by his family. Jay he survived by his granddaughter, two children, ex-wife,  and his beloved dog.

Jay was born and raised in Florissant, and studied Philosophy and received a Masters in Guidance Counseling. He also served in the Coast Gard where he successfully avoided going to Vietnam. He is the founder of The Colin Sphinctor Band who first played the Focal Point back in 1975.Jay was a world traveler and has made many trips both aboard to Europe and has traveled extensively in North America. His love to travel was reflected in the jobs he took as a courier which required him to be behind the wheel of his car for hours at a time.

Jay had a love for wrestling and co hosted the radio show, St. Louis Brain Sandwich for over 20 years where their motto was “just stupid enough.”

Jay was larger than life and held many passions. One of those passions led him to opening The Maya Cafe in Maplewood which he sustained for 20 years. It was Jay’s influence that led The Maya Cafe to win Taste of Maplewood for best drink, best sweets, best savory, and best overall multiple years over. The Maya Cafe also had been featured as a favorite in Sauce magazine for their Latin inspired dishes.

Jay is an accomplished writer, having written a personal memoir and a murder mystery novel. Jay accomplished so much in his life and was truly a one-of-a-kind person that had so much unconditional love and compassion for others. He was a best friend and confidant to many. His ability to be lifetime friends with nearly everyone he met, the vast amounts of knowledge he would share, and his capability to not take life too seriously will all continue to live with those who knew Jay.
