Focal Point presents an evening of sea chanteys! The Mississippi River Whalers (or perhaps Wailers) are a 6-person crew, properly spaced and masked, captained by Jay Harkey of the Wee Heavies and including singers from a couple of ongoing weekly sessions. (By “Ongoing'” we mean pre-Covid, but we still remember the words!)
Sea chanteys, in our program, will mean traditional and original songs, by, for, or about sailors and the sea. Most of them were actually used to accompany the work done on old-fashioned sailing ships. There may be a bit of information about the songs as we go along, but mostly there will be singing. There is ample opportunity for listeners to learn the words and join in from the comfort of home!
