Brian Curran and Ivas John

February 25 @ 8:00 pm

$15 – $20

Coming together over of a shared vision of what pure folk and country blues music should sound like, Brian Curran and Ivas John have made it their business to share with audiences timeless songs which echo of a beautiful Americana purity. The relaxed, warm feeling that fills the room wherever these old souls play is a testament to their charming love of this music as well as the combined decades of experience they bring to the stage.

Their pickin’ is good clean country fun in the style of Doc & Merle, the Delmore Brothers, Mississippi John Hurt, Leon Redbone, Big Bill Broonzy, and other titans of early American blues, ragtime, and country music. Having plenty of their own material to offer, it can be hard to distinguish an original from an interpretation of a timeless classic. Both musicians have impressive resumes as bandleaders and solo artists and have combined their talents to take their love of this music around the country, and around the world.

Brian Curran is a native Missourian and a 25 year veteran of the St. Louis blues scene. An expert in bottleneck slide guitar, delta blues, and Merle Travis fingerpicking, he is just as much a historian as performer. With feet firmly planted in the traditional styles of early blues music, he can whisk listeners away to a different time and place, magically and effortlessly channeling the sounds of the 1920’s Deep South. A natural at both performing and teaching, Brian Curran has become one of the most in demand authorities on early acoustic blues.

Ivas John is originally from Chicago, but has been living right along side the Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau, Missouri for the past several years. Although well known for his electric blues, Ivas has branched out in many directions of American roots music, and is equally skilled and passionate by himself with an acoustic guitar. He plays both finger style and flat-picks his guitar with impressive dexterity and impeccable taste…evoking sounds of high and lonesome Appalachia, the dusty old west, elegant gypsy jazz, or what he calls front porch Mississippi mud music, with simple guitar and harmonica accompaniment. His way with lyrics has generated several albums of original material and the voracious appetite for variety continues to be his calling card. Since the release of Ivas’ latest album “Good Days a Comin”, which Billboard magazine called a “Slam Dunk!”, he has been nominated for several blues awards, contributed music to HGTV, and performed extensively in the U.S., Canada, and Europe, winning over critics and picking up new fans with ease in the pure acoustic circles.

The heart of historic American music pumps with renewed vigor inside these fellas. Do not miss this show!
